The latest life-sim game, blobs to explain your methodology and the long wait to make a reservation at the archives.
Last game you played? inZOI the latest life simulator, wasn’t too well received by critics, but sold over 1.000.000 copies in a week’s time. Though still in early access, I’m having a blast. My zoi less so probably, she managed to get the worst relationship with her now ex-husband and her own daughter (how did that even happen?!), moved out (leaving most of the acquired wealth), and remarried to a long-time friend. He has terrible karma, though (which means he’s at greater risk for death? Or other karmic retributions?), and the latest patch that makes karma much more stable —thus also much harder to get out of the “terrible” range— I’m not too sure how he will fare.
A task you’ll finally get around to this week? Hopefully, I will be able to make a reservation for the archives, which I wanted to do this morning, but currently the site is under maintenance.
Quote from a reading you’d recommend? If you’re interested in qualitative data analysis, Braun and Clarke (2006) have a nice article on the methodological process, in which I came across this quote:
“If we imagine our data three-dimensionally as an uneven blob of jelly, the semantic approach would seek to describe the surface of the jelly, its form and meaning, while the latent approach would seek to identify the features that gave it that particular form and meaning.“
I wish more things would be explained using “blobs”.
Something the team is working on? Getting our ducks in a row and making some plans for future events!
What’s one of your favorite albums? Honestly, as I use Spotify mostly, I don’t listen to albums that much as I usually opt for a playlist or artist in general. If you want an artist to check out, give Will Wood a go.
What is an ice cream flavor you haven’t ever had yet but want to try? Lychee sorbet.
What is the best thing about spring? Longer days! I’m so happy that it’s still light out at 8pm!
What’s something you used to be good at but can’t do now? At one point in time, I got quite into calligraphy. I haven’t done it in ages, so I’m pretty sure any attempt would not yield the same results.
What question should be swapped out for another? Let’s retire “What is an ice cream flavor you haven’t ever had yet but want to try?” and switch it up to: “What gadget would you like to try or already have and can recommend?”

Hello! My name is Corine Gerritsen and I am responsible for the subproject ‘Mechanics’ in the project of Playful Time machines. I got both my BA degree in history and my RMA in Ancient Studies at Utrecht University. I started focusing on the past in video games during my internship at VALUE, and the topic stuck. Always up for checking out new, old, small, big, whacky, and serious ludic renditions of the past.
